The title is a spin on the achingly desperate Amy Winehouse song ‘Back to Black’. A sense of calm and tranquility edges back into our lives as we spend a week on the remote island of Ikaria with our niece, my late brother’s daughter. There is little to do but sit and gaze at the depthless fathoms - seemingly less black than they might have looked eighteen months previously. We laze around, swim, read books, reminisce a little and drink too much wine. His presence hovers on the periphery, just out of reach.
